Officials in the island state are striving to determine a pink slime that has surfaced on a isolated coast, with some scientists concerned it could be an algal bloom.

The magenta-hued slime was found on a portion of a coastal area about 37 miles south of the city. A similar sludge has also been noted on areas of a nearby shore and Little Taylors Bay.
